This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

That individuals thee are starting to take such action is a good sign, lets hope they have the resolve to continue and carry it through.

I would like to see Mexico get that mess cleaned up. My heart goes out to its citizens.

Also, what happens in Mexico has some baring on our illegal immigrant problem.

One of my oldest friends married a woman from an old-line (and honest) Mexican family. Because of the kidnapping craze they haven't been back since their two boys were born.

Corruption is ubiquitous and pan-generationally entrenched; I hope that it doesn't take bloodshed to make a true change.

I am so glad they are finally understanding that unification against the corruption within Mexico will be the only way to deflat what has been their biggest nightmare. They have to stand up to these issues they face in order to begin to make advancement in their own country. Running to America is not the way to make the necessary changes for other generations. It is about time the people of Mexico stand up to the government and cartels and take their country back.

Very well said: I would like to add, that if a sufficient number of Mexicans, that have had the opportunity to live and experience life here in the United States, would take the time and share that experience of freedom, and all that goes with it, with the people who staged this protest and help them to continue their road to building Mexico into a country to be proud of, and grow into a country the world would be knocking on their door and requesting to be a part of. Mexico has everything it needs in location and countryside that is the envy of many, their only problem unfortunately, is their government ……….. not their people.

When a corrupt government can not govern and protect their citizens, if allowed, people will vote them out, and demand justice. Mexico is a democracy, and I am hoping that those good people do what it takes to demand real action from their elected officials. They are brave and proud people doing what they are doing. Why? They love their country. They are not running here, looking for a better life. They know they can create a great life for themselves right at home with a less corrupt government. More power to them, that whole country's government is a laughing stock of exactly how NOT to govern. They need a real un-buyable police force. They need politicians who can't be bought. They need a chance! I hope they get what they are demanding. It's what we already have here. I am proud of these people.

Sorry to rain on your parade, Randy, but a corrupt government can NOT be "voted" out. A corrupt government will stay in power by simply corrupting the vote. It's great the citizens of Mexico are doing this but I fear that it's simply not enough. If you look at the history of world all of major geopolitical changes have happened through force and force alone, either through revolution and civil war or through external intervention.
A corrupt government with corrupt police force will NOT give up its power. Neither politicians nor police themselves want to lose their seats of power. Mexicans I know do not want to go back to Mexico right now because it's basically kill on sight there (if you're Mexican and nobody knows who you are then you're considered a federale).

I agree. The only way to fix Mexico ( I fear) is a full scale revolution/civil war. The corruption has been entrenched for many generations. The majority of officials/police are on the take. All democratic intentions are basically futile. The only way to fix this kind of mess is to tear it all down and then re-build from scratch.

Randy - these two gentlemen are, unfortunately, correct. Our country is very much the same. In my humble opinion, our government has been corrupt for many years. The halls of congress are filled with liars, thieves and perverts. Candidates tell their audiences what they think people want to hear. When elected, they do the bidding of the highest bidders.
In an ideal world this would not be true - but unfortunately we do not live in that kind of world. Since I do not live in Mexico I am not in a position to make statements regarding their government, but I feel like it is corrupt just like ours. Just look at what we have to vote for this year. No two party system here - just different names. We have taxation without representation for sure.

Maybe oldcrankyman has lived long enough to truly understand this country. I have too, and the changes in this country (not for the good) have been happening for years. I can certainly remember better times. One could afford a home, gas, food, insurance, the list is endless. Jobs were plentiful (before they were sent out of the US, and people were NOT killing their own children and each other nearly as regularly. We didn't have Jesse Jacskon and Al Sharpton "complaining" about everything. There was Martin Luther King trying to make all of us wake up to the treatment of black citizens in a peaceful manner. He was action - not just complaining. Children could play outside without disappearing, and there was not so much domestic abuse. Many things have changed for the worse and those of us old enough to remember are sorely aware of that fact. Home invasions are on the rise, and stealing is a career move now. People are stealing just about anything that is not set in concrete. Even cattle are being stolen. Things are going backwards here. I understand we are better off as a whole than some other countries, but the margin is becoming slim. I mean to disrespect to the opinions of any one. It is my hope the younger posters on this venue see things start back up the scale instead of seeing it continue to slide downward. We have lost too many jobs, and are gradually being taxed to death. My best to each of you. It is also my hope the draft is not reinstated - if it is many of you will be sent to wherever the government decides to lie to us and pick another fight for our people to fight and die. Sacrifices have been made by thousands over the years to keep this country at a higher standard than some other countries. Please do not disrespect those that have paid
a high price for our "freedom". Thank you.

This march was to show our government that we are finally awake. For decades we have lived with corruption, lies, violence, and government enforced ignorance. Our way of reacting, as any good member of dysfunctional families, has been to accommodate the abuse and comply to the "norms." After decades of ignorance and forfeiting our rights, we are finally waking and seeking the truths. We are finally uniting, rich and poor, educated and uneducated, in protest and demanding our God given rights.
It is true Mexico is a democracy, it is also true by keeping half of the country poor and uneducated, you can buy votes with $5 U.S dollars worth of simple groceries and promises of education which will never be granted. The current corrupt system never considered that hardships could be shared by all socioeconomic classes. The violence, killings, and kidnappings caused by corruption is non-descriminating and causing our classes to unite and revolt.
We are finally seeing the truth. We no longer want to just survive life as our government's bastard children, but live life. We want a life that we know our country is capable of providing, if placed within the right hands.

I wish our only problems were gangs. We are being kidnapped, tortured and murdered. It doesn't matter anymore that you are in no way involved with drugs or corruption or even in the wrong place at the wrong time. We are now living in a country where there is no "correct" place or "correct" time left in which to escape. I don't see the march as an instant solution, but it will at least be made clear that we are no longer deaf and mute. I would imagine things will get much before getting better and we may never see the results of our fight, but if we can better life for our children and future generations, I'd say it's damn worth it.

It sure is worth it!!! I am behind your people all the way. I live in San Diego and know all of the pain and suffering that has been happening for many years. There are Americans as well, being kidnapped and held for ransom. Very few people I know anymore are traveling down south. I am very proud of the people of Mexico. Stand up and fight...this is the time to take your country back. What a country it will be when the corruption that exists is annihilated. So beautiful.

We do have to start somewhere. We have given proposals and citizen demands to every local, state, and federal office. We want to be educated and protected. We want "civil authorities" created and given access to judicial offices for means of "checks and balances". We want to put a end to closed door trials for these killers, druglords, and corrupt politicians. Behind closed doors, money is moved, and justice never prevails. We want competent outside expert entitites to review our local, state, and federal judicial systems to weed out the bad and properly train the good. We want our government to then properly equip the good with weapons and increased wages . We want a system provided where citizens can denounce crime, violence, and corruption safely. The current system not only requires lengthy identity exposure by the media and courts, but also does not guarentee the judicial official receiving the information is not the same one who will have us killed for giving it. We want our government to be made to prioritize and be held accountable for our communal and personal security. If they are unable, they must resign, if they do not, they should face trial. We want for all citizens to wake up and see that We can make Mexico better. We must assume responsibility beginning with our own families, and we must begin forming our OWN opinions, not just accepting what is handed to us. Civically, We want citizens to respect laws, denounce crime, and look out for the wellbeing of our communities, as one.

I am in San Diego also. We loved going to Mexico, even if it was only TJ, and took the Midwestern visiting relatives too. One of the best family vacations we ever went on was to Cancun, with an 18-month-old, and the people there were wonderful. I went to Mexico City as a teen, started Spanish in school in 8th grade, love Spanish too. Now, there is no way we could consider going to Mexico, which, seeing how close we are, really makes me sad. That last high profile case of the 14-year-old boy killed, well, here we also heard how one of the body guards HAD ALL HIS TEETH PULLED before they killed him too. Nightmare.
                      Something has got to give.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but I don't limit myself to one certain type. It really depends on the circumstance and the case at hand. I feel that is one of the large problems in society. We choose to limit ourselves. We elect officials because of a certain lable. I'm sorry, but politics is not a one size fits all issue. Some circumstances may require a gentler hand, others require extreme force. Seldom are there causes which should be "centered", centering can be confused , allowing stalemates and indifference. I will not vote democrat , republican, or independent down the line (PRI, PAN, OR PRD, PT), each case and cause needs to be carefully evaluated before choosing.

If it were up to me, they would have never left. They would have never been forced into ingnorance and made to crawl to your doorstep. If it were up to me, my government would have our welfare at heart instead of holding hands with yours to find a way to exploit us while taxing you to pay for it. I don't agree with nor condone illegal immigration, the same as I don't agree with or condone blind stupidity and the evasion of responsibilty on a personal or national level.

We are not trying to force an election. Calderon, while not perfect, at least has shown some huevos. We are trying to promote citizen will. If we can reunite our citizens as a whole, we can recreate a country where governing powers, in majority, work for the people instead of at the costs of and against the people. This has nothing to do with revolution and marking ones territory, it has to do with humanism, taking responsibility, and working as a whole for our common good and needs as one. Granted between our corrupt political and judicial forces and their narco allies, it will not be easy and surely more blood will be shed, but we have nothing to lose. Just as Americans, we love our country. We can no longer pretend it will change on it's own. We have lost too many to lies, corruption, immigration, and violence. Instead of crying in dismay, running, and licking the corrupt ties that bind us, we need to stand up, unite and create our own Mexican dream. A nation where, like your founding Father's offered you, we can live in "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Mexico needs to start capturing, convicting and executing those guilty of murder. Kidnappers should be executed as well if they don't help to release or give info on where their kidnap victims are. Especially if they kidnapped a child or minor. They should be hung in a public square and made an example of.

I too at first felt the death penalty was needed, but killing them won't help us, besides, an eye for an eye causes total blindness. The narcos have no fear of death. Death creates fame and history. They fear poverty and loss of power. They need to be captured, publically tried and incarcerated along with other killers. Their families should not be left to live with the millions that were created by killing and drug running. Strip their entire families of every cent, let the narcos rot, powerless and wondering how their wive's are fairing while cleaning someone else's mansion and their children are left hungry and uneducated. The stripping of the power and fame is what will create change and thought in others. In the end, when prisons become overcrowded, further decisions can be made.

We are also concerned of the consequential effects of the Merida Initiative, global warming, taxation, devaloration, inflation, unemployment, and illegal immigration. Thanks for asking.

It's good to see the other side of the coin. A lot of Americans just don't get it. I didn't either until I took a Global Politics class. I watched a movie called We Don't Play Golf Here about globalization & the effects that it has has on Mexico's agriculture industry & the Pollution that is left in your country by corporations that look to exploit lax enviromental laws in order to save a dollar. I like hearing an opposite point of view. I hope that people of both nations can work together to rectify these problems & stop this corporate madness!!!

Mexicans should have a march called "AMERICA STOP SMOKING POT". The bloggers cheering Mexico's efforts to end crime , probably half are contributors to that crime because they keep the drug dealers in business. And if Americans stopped using cocaine then we can put FARC in Columbia, who is also kidnapping the middle class, out of business too. And to all you bloggers bashing the US government, I hope you get caught with your drugs and our government throws your butt in jail for 10 years.

That, NJ, for Americans to stop using drugs, I second! Works both ways on that consumer issue - don't buy drugs, there won't be drug dealers. Don't give illegal workers jobs, they won't come looking for one. (We lived in Jersey, they treat Columbians like the SW U.S. treats Mexicans.)

IF pot were legalized and sold in packs like cigarettes - it would take the MONEY and CRIME out of the picture. Let people grow their own pot - they do it any way. I am for legalizing pot, other street drugs, whore houses and gambling.
You can NOT outlaw "sinning", but you can take the BIG profit out, and lessen the burden on the rest of us tax payers. Legalize and tax all this "k___". The "drug war" is a total joke. You can not stop people from doing what they decide to do. Prohibition DID NOT work - it just profited the thugs and went underground where every one who wanted booze could follow them and get it any time. If employers were punished for hiring illegal employees most of this would stop too. But as always, the poorest, and less important individuals are the only ones punished. Our government is afraid of big business - they are their main source of campaign funding. Big business will, in disguise, fight the citizens of Mexico on their efforts - where else can they dump their pollutants?????

                                      MEXICO HAVE NO HEROES////DEAD PENALTY...

In the past I had the chance of talking with some police officers of various law agencies in Tijuana, most of them have the opinion that in Mexico the dead penalty is needed and specially had to be applied to cop killers and the guilty of multiple homicides.
In Mexico money could very well be the main reason that the police become corrupt but not too far is the fact that they fear for the well being of their relatives even after they are dead.
The frustration of knowing that the major players involved in the dead of a police officer rarely or better said:Never have been brought to justice is a simple MORAL KILLER.
They see how in other parts of the world the surviving relatives of late police officers can face in a court of law some of the responsible of their death with the minimum fear that they too could get hurt.

WE NEED HEROES! and I believe these can come from the same agency that supposed to protects us.

Cops know that as long justice isn't serve after they die by performing their job, they will not risk their life, and the temptation of cooperating with the organize crime in exchange for money and the promise of leaving their love ones alone, will always be there.
Let's give'em the chance to become the heroes that we need! LET'S PUNISH WITH THE MAXIMUM PENALTY -DEATH, THOSE WHO THREAT,TORTURE AND KILL the ones that have the desire and are brave enough to protect us.
And of course let's punish those agents that betray our trust and make sure that they NEVER return to work a different government agency.

Mexico has a criminal culture that is being exported to the US!!! Mexican culture has infiltrated the State and Federal governments here in the US. By assimilating Mexicans into the US we have invited the same kind of problems here that are described in the article. These are not cute pesants that cross the border illegally - they are a people steeped in a culture of crime. Stop them NOW!!!

No Mexico does NOT have a criminal culture being exported. Criminal culture goes both ways. Unfortunately, in times of poor government a good part of the grassroots culture often turns to criminal culture to replace government for social order. That is right, Mexico merely leads the US in turning to organized criminals for relief from government corruption/incompetance. Unfortunately, in Mexico the criminals are turning out worse than the government.

For easily recognized historical precedence, note that until WWII Japanese Yakuza were essentially government for the common class. US history is too young for openly as openly acknowleged cases.

Front - Mexico does not have a criminal culture. Those "cute peasants", campesinos, are native Mexican Indians, that is, the small dark men on the corners waiting for some American employer to hire them illegally, thereby adding to the problem, and artificially keeping wages lower.
Mexicans, often "mestizo", or "mixed blood" Indian/Spanish, etc., or even just long time Spaniards, treat their "cute peasants" badly, and they are so poor - they leave and come to the U.S., making in one day what they would make in a week (maybe more, especially if you consider back home they cannot find a job at all). They are more from the interior states of Mexico, where a buck goes a long way (even tho' our dollar's valuation sucks right now).
Are there bad guys too? Of course, and that works both ways also. Mexico should be considered a good friend, family-oriented, Christian, friendly, as a rule. The bad guys? Their police system is a wreck, it has always been weak. Their answer to the Federal Government has to step up the plate, or who is to blame them if the Mexicans riot?

First, THANK YOU ALL for your civilized and educated comments. I don't even bother anymore with all the other sites that are full of racist and ignorant hateful comments that don't contribute to any solutions.
Mexico is awakening, I agree 1000% with everything you say. Your comments are deep, highly educated and informed.
I also agree 1000% with NJ to Miami. AMERICA PLEASE STOP contributing to the horrible and devastating situation in Mexico!- AMERICA PLEASE STOP THE DEMAND OF DRUGS, and the supply and business from the South will dye out. One last thing that doesnt get enough cover: while it's true that most of the drugs come from the South; at the same time the powerful weapons used by the organized crime and cartels in MX come from the US. It is a BILATERAL problem and both countries are involved in it. It is NOT all the responsibility of MX, I recommend you all to try to watch at night the Spanish news from Galavision and from Azteca-America and you will see the the devastation to such beautiful country and their citizens being caused by the incoming and outgoing of drugs/ US weapons illegal traffic. As far as I'm concerned anybody that uses, buys, sells drugs in the US HAS BLOOD IN THEIR HANDS.

It is terrible what is happening to such a beautiful country and their citizens. The problem is serious and it's BILATERAL. It is not only Mexico's responsibility, but the US too. This problem is caused by the Demand and Supply. AMERICA PLEASE STOP YOUR INSATIABLE ADDICTION TO DRUGS! When the demand ends the supply will die out. Another problem that doesn't get enough press, is the illegal traffic of US powerful and military style weapons to the hands of the narcos and criminals. This is way Mexico's President is having a hard time controlling the crime down there, despite his best intentions; because the narcos and criminals have more powerful weapons than the Poice. As far as I'm concerned anybody in the US that uses/purchases/sells drugs HAVE BLOOD IN THEIR HANDS!!!

The open border is hindering us both. I believe LEGAL immigrants have a right to the world, in fact that may offer benefits to other countries. Illegal immigration on the othe hand is draining us both. Your working class is paying for our poverty stricken illegals explotation. By hiring illegals in the united states, it decreases the need for our own government to take responsibility and created much needed opportunities internally.

I agree with demmywemmy - makes no sense and is not even on topic. Channels since you are stuck on "racism" - give a good definition of this word. You can even check the dictionary. MEXICO AWAKENING-----Thank you for putting perspective on the situation in Mexico, and trying to explain why so many Mexicans are crossing the border.

I lived and traveled in your beautiful country and would gladly return if the opportunity presented itself. Contrary to the MEDIA , all Mexicans are not gang members, or drug smugglers. They are hardworking people who want the best for their families, education for their children, and work to support their families.

Unfortunately, you are correct, things will get worse before they get better. The drug lords will not give up easily.

I spent many months traveling off the beaten path to small villages, teaching English to whomever wanted to learn the language. In exchange, I was taught so much by people who have so little.
I was a retired "gringa" with grey hair who simply wanted to learn about another culture---no affiliations with any church or organization.

I wish you the Godspeed and the best of luck with your endeavors. My heart goes out to any strugglling People. It is no wonder to me that Mexican people want to come here- the last bastion of Freedom.

We need to learn the lessons of Secular Socialistic Democracy, and avoid them. The liberals are taking us right to where Mexico is ( and the rest of the Secular Socialist Democracies). France has had HOW many constitutions? All Secular and Socialist in nature.

The United States is the only Democracy in History to preserve its Absolute Values until recently.
And this threat has been by liberal justices perverting the Constitution, making up "prescidents" so they may hand down any ruling they choose. (Seperation of Church and State is a perfect example. Thomas Jefferson was in France when the Constitution was drafted. The letter he wrote never wanted seperation of church and state. The liine in the letter, taken out of context by the liberals was used, out of context mind you, to develop this whole secular humanist approach to law. Atheistic Secular Humanism is what is taught in our schools, enforced by the NEA and the whipping dog ACLU. A

ANd the AMerican Public did nothing becuase the schools set you all up. By NOT teaching your rights and the Constitution, you let the Courts get away with it. And now we are converting from Natural Law (all people have rights ) to Common Law (what is good for the goos is good for the gander). On example of common law was the appelate Court in California banning Home Schooling in one fell swoop (with out prescident or vote from the people. THAT IS WHAT THE LIBERALA like Obillary and Obama want - umlimited power to remake your lives. That is what the word

PREGRESSIVE means. Take your freedoms based on the polls. Not on what is right or ethical.

By fracturing our beliefs and culture (Atheism, Nililism, influence of the NEA and ACLU through "diversity" forced on our children in schools) we are going the route of Mexico and a host of other countries.

I hope the naturalized Hispanic Culture now here in America will realize this. Instead of going the way of the Black Culture (living on the dole) they have a chance (and many have) to make prosperity their own here in America. But it will not be at the hands of the Socialist Democratic Elite. (We call them Democrats in America).

Instead of becoming a part of the NEW SLAVERY (Socialist Democracy) preserve REpublican form of Government - it's what the United States is - a Republic.

to Garry Barnes: NCLR (La Raza) it's a wonderful organization that promotes the education and the progress of Hispanics for the better and benefit of the American society as a whole; in no way or form they or other like organization promote 'open borders'. The term 'open borders' is a spin that the xenophobes in the media like lou dobbs/cnn have used to indoctrinate weak minds like yours into an ignorant and nativist way of thinking. NCLR and other non-profit organizations like them, offer scholarships to students so they can become productive members of our American society and these students are also expected to volunteer and become role-models to others in their communities.

Ray: Are you so stupid that you don't know the real agenda of La Raza (The Race) .La Raza continues to advocate open door policy for our borders and amnesty. La Raza continues to pressing illegal aliens not to cooperate with Immigration officials. I know in Georgia the K.K.K. offers scholarships to students so they also can be productive members of our society. Illegal Immigration is wrong Period! Follow the rule of law. Today for every dollar illegal pay in taxes another 3 dollars is spent on government benefits. Today 14-25 American citizen die daily @ the hands of illegal Immigrates. Ray when are you going to wake up? American citizens do not want illegal immigrates to continue come into this country.Except the employers that exploit them. Some of these employers pay no state local federal taxes or workmans comp for these workers. Then they claim the didn't know they had fraudulent social security numbers and I.D.s. We need e-verify for all employees to verify all s.s.n. are valid. Why doesn't La Raza stand up for legal Immigrates that have medical and criminal background checks prior to entering the usa?

Castel Gandolfo, Italy — Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday tackled a subject that American politicians won't touch with a 10-foot pole: illegal immigration.

According to the International Hearld Tribune, the Pope not only chided countries like Mexico for not improving living conditions and opportunities for illegals so they would stay, but he also urged illegals to be aware of "the very grave risks they run in the search to better their conditions" as well as "the duty to follow the law."

This is a significant development, considering that most illegals in the United States are Roman Catholics. However, it's doubtful they will follow the Pope's admonishment.

Polls in Italy show that the majority of Italians blame illegal immigrants for crime. The current Premier Silvio Berlusconi's government, which includes an anti-immigrant party from affluent northern Italy, has been cracking down on crime and illegals.

Only corporate figures and government bigwigs reap the benifits, on both sides. By immigrating illegally they are essentially putting there person for sale, they have no rights, nor protection.
