This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's because we feed them a diet rich in trans fats and cholesterol, corn based sweeteners, processed foods, fatty meat, high sodium, nitrates, refined carbohydrates and beer; and then pray for a heart attack - the only legal way to kill your husband.

First, universal health car has to be paid by somebody, someone has to manage it, and it has to be profitable. The issue is easy to request and mandate, but has so many moving parts that nned to be adressed before the undertaking.
Two, why should I be responsible for those who are prolife or who bring children in the world knowing from the onset, they cannot afford those children.
Three, Government regulation and supervision is a lost cause. Our Government receives taxes and can increase taxes at will and still can't break even.
Fourth, Other countires and there complexities, such as dictatorships, and other forms of governement, lead me to say , great idea, but what about the US sending aid for victims of war and or other an cannot get through the political red tape, and then there are the sub factions that are bandits.

Last and not least, where is the plan, how it works, who will manage it, who will be accountable, and will it be profitable.

John - it would be like Medicare, or Workers Comp, a not-for-profit entity. Good luck trying to get the for-profit HMOs to let go of their golden goose.
There are doctors who will not accept Medicare, nor Medicaid. Universal Health would likely be a two tier system of sorts - those that have, and those that have not. If you have money, some doctors will care for you specifically, free market system. If you have no money, get in line baby, like in England, for office visits, and on a list for non-emergency surgeries.

Universal health care would not have to be profitable. It is not a business enterprise, but it should be able to pay for itself to some degree.

WHO director-general, Margaret Chan stated "We simply cannot afford the way we go about doing health care nowadays without tackling and doing more prevention."

Prevention is always better that correction. Unfortunately there's more money in health-care than in health-cure. It's the same mentality as expecting oil cartels to seek alternative energy sources on their own accord. The motivation to make money and satisfy share holders greatly out-weighs the motivation to take a pay cut and "do the right thing". The "haves" already have access to the best health care. Why should they worry about the "have-nots"? Yes, they'll throw a bone from time to time but they will not jeopardize their own livelihood. Thank you unbridled capitalism.

Wait...wait...you mean to tell me that not everyone in every other country in the world lives to the same age??? When did this start happening??? I thought that no matter where you lived, when you got to about 80 you had to die. I saw it in Logan's Run! in the movies! It's so unfair that Americans get to live longer then someone living in a jungle in a reed hut and eating monkeys, parrots and grubs!

I'll bet this is yet another vast Right-wing conspiracy started by George Bush! Damn that dummy! I think we need to get someone in the White House to make change come about, someone to enlighten us and tax longevity...give any excess years we Americans have to those who are not fortunate enough to have enough of their own years! Obama in 2008!

Money is not in and of itself an indicator of potential life expectancy's. I could start listing all of the rich Hollywood celebrities who have helped keep the USA Life expectancy average lower than it should be, but that would take all day.

Smoking 2 packs and drinking a quart of Gin a day, screwing everybody you can find, shooting drugs, and eating everything you can put your hands on, will generally shorten your life span no matter what health care system you have. And screwing every prostitute in your country and bringing AIDS home to the wife, or hacking your neighbors to death with machetes, will do the same thing.

"Hollywood types" is not a good example because they usually kill themselves from drugs or car wrecks at a young age, so including them in the stats skews the bell curve...

Money can be an indicator of poor health if you do not have any. If you cannot purchase healthy food and live on carbs and fats, if you cannot get your children vaccinated for lack of funds...in many ways money can be a factor in poor health.

Not every poor person is a drug addict. I think you have lived a sheltered life if you think that.

I can't believe the WHO is any less socialistic than B Obama or H Clinton and the rest of our legislators. I don't and will not give what I work hard for to someone to "redistribute my wealth." I give what I can to my church, personal assistance to strangers when the need presents itself, but like so many others above I will not support those who make bad decisions regarding their own health and preventive measures available through good decision making.
I watch the obese people getting on the plane or attempting to sit in a seat at a sporting event and then complain because the seat is too small, or there isn't a snack, like they need it. What about the fact that our nation will adjust to meet the demands of those who make poor choices in their life and can't fit into a casket without having it "oversized."
How did we as a society go from playing outside as kids to sitting on the couch playing video games and eating junk food? Oh yeah, it's curel to play dodge ball, tag, or other games which inspire competition and result in self achievement. Yes Susie, someone looses at a game, but don't we all loose at something in life? Life isn't fair, deal with what is presented in your life.

John McCain also practices socialism. He gets a monthly social security check. The USA is a blend of capitalism and socialism.

And certainly a change in administration in Washington will not offer up any solutions......it never does. It will be more of the same or even worse (more likely the later) or an answer to who will pay the bill for this will be forthcoming. But to point the finger of blame to the current administration is not exactly the brightest reply to the problem (way to go h2o). People must learn to live healthier lives and do something about their own health to help with the terrible situation. Greywolf is correct....

Tough times with complicated issues that cannot be solved in Washington especially the White House h2o.....

It is to be expected that these variations in life expectancy will exist and that is why a universal health policy is needed for not only the humanity but all the creatures of this universe. Sooner we begin to take responsibility for the entire creation sooner will be the outcome and betterment of our existence. With global view we can do more with lot less and ensure our future.

First of all, it's called survival of the fittest. Just like with any other species on this planet, human beings are no different in this respect. Nature has its way of culling the herd so to speak.

Second of all, Greywolf hit the nail right smack damn on the head. I truly believe the majority of people with any common sense are fed up with having to pay for other peoples irresponsible behavior. When is enough, enough???

I, personally, realize the need for health care through out the world but at who's expense?
As a citizen(legally) of the U.S. I have no health insurance and I don't expect anyone else to foot the bill for me. I just hope the WHO isn't using existing "social health care" as an example because it has failed repeatedly by costing enormous amounts of money to fund health care.
If I had a disease in Canada I would be put on a six month long waiting list to receive care.
In the U.S. veterans are at the bottom of the barrel even though they defended those citizens and stood in honor of their country.

The USA spend 100X what other countries spend on health care and we get very poor care often even for people who can afford to pay for it. The healh care system is on the verge of collapse as people with insurance cant afford to use it because they cant afford the co pays. The system is sick baby and you dumb koffs wont admit it and face the truth. You want to argue on sociaism already 50% of health care in the USA is socialized through the Veterans Hospitals and Medicare and Medciaid. Before we decide to let the working class pay for all of the health care of the nation,we must think before we act. If we socialize medicine, then we can forget about new and better ways to prevent or treat diseases, i.e. cancer, heart etc. Once the doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and technology inventers do not make their profits, they will shift their sites to new areas where they can make the profits. Canada has socialized medicine, and they are now saying it is not working. If we look at our overall health care system, we have to realize that social services simply do not work, and if a study were done in America, I would have to ask how may illegal aliens are receiving free services while hard working American citizens are doing without. There has to be a better way of giving the American citizen access to health care without having our Government control it. The Government has been in control of our Social Security Program forever, and look how screwed up it is.

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDIN ME! Talking about taking on world hunger. THE WHO believeing we need to have world wide universal health care is a total pipe dream. Who would pay for it? Once again, the american middle class????? Gimme a break! America needs to mind it's own business & worry about america & americans. We have a grossly incompetent president that has driven this country into the ground & has taken it to the brink of bankruptcy. For cripe sake - we're borrowing money from China to pay Saudia Arabia (home of terrorism) for oil. If you ran you business this way you'd be fired. If you ran your household this way, you'd be filing for Chapter 11 - Bankruptcy. If stupidity were an impeachable offense Bush would have been gone long ago. The only thing I've heard that is more stupid than Bush is world wide universal health care. Heck, we can;t even take care of our own people -now you want us to take care of Botswana ?????????? Gimme a break !!!!!!!!!!!! Who are these morons who come up with this crap anyway? This isn't even worth the space it's taking up on our data bases. If you can't produce serious & responsible stuff - please stop wasting our time with this foolishness. Oh Oh I know - lets collect all of the debris in the world and send it to the moon. What - it could happen! Gimme a break & stop insulting our intelligence with this garbage. Dare to dream is for pot heads - the rest of us (non weed smokers) are based in reality.

Well, here we go again. the "have nots" insisting that the "haves" cough up money to provide for the "have nots". Tell me, you left wing mental midgets...where is there ONE truly successful "socialist health" program in a country of any size. BIG ZERO!! NONE!! Ask the Canadians...if they want something SERIOUS done... they come to the US.
I have been self employed all my life...and its tough to come up with the money for health care and health insurance...but its called BEING RESPONSIBLE for YOURSELF. Sometimes it means changing your life style..(skip the pizza, sodas, and movies once in awhile) Besides, for those who truly ARE indigent...our government already offers assistance in many ways. Obama supports a Government MANDATED health insurance plan. Have you ALL lost your mind...More government control is NOT what is needed.
You socialists are taxing the middle class out of existence!
As for the "third World" countries...things will NOT change until THEIR governments decide to be responsible. "World health care" implemented in many African states, for instance.....would bring us ALL to poverty level.

I have talked to Canadians about it. I have not met one who thought their system of health care was inferior to ours. None woud trade their system for our lack of system. Are all Canadians mental midgets too?

No, most Canadians are great people...but they stream across the borders to come to the US for treatment because they have to wait months up there for routine tests like CAT scans and MRIs, and their GOVT health insurance is accepted in the US, or at least most of it is accepted!

First off the statement that 45 million Americans don't have health insurance is a lie put forth for an agenda.

It counts many groups in there that should not be taken into account - for example people that are temporarily out of work and chose not to continue health care, it counts people that simply choose not to buy healthcare. Many in this number already fall into state provided health care yet they are also included.

The real number is somewhere between 10 - 20 million in a country whose population is over 300 million that is not bad.

Sorry the world is not fair. Want health care - get a job. What next - everybody should get a Mercedez too?

And the guy commenting on everything being the fault of the Republicans - OK whose been the majority in the house and senate? Hello - anybody home?

Any Canadians care to speak up? About 20 years ago, my grandma's "snowbird" friends hung out together in the winters in Vero Beach, Florida. Those Canadian elders stopped coming tho', as they feared their health policies would not cover them if taken very ill while in the U.S., and my grandma was really sad about that. She did go up and visit with some of them in summer (not too far from Ohio where her home was-she is 92 now, but not mobile any longer).
In 20 years, Canada has had a flood of immigrants, legal is my understanding, anybody really. Does that sound familiar to any Canada folks?

Gee wiz all this time I thought it took self discipline for a better health, riches and a long life, now in my 70's I found out, it is socialized medicine does it. I guess Cuban will live to be a hundred.

This articles states that 45 million people don't have health insurance. What it doesn't tell you is how many of those 45 million people have access through their company to health insurance. A carton of cigarettes or a 12 pack of beer are more important to millions of Americans than paying for health insurance. If the government forces Universal health care, they will make sure anyone making less than $30,000 or $35,000 doesn't have to pay one dime for it. Guess who picks up the tab!

Anyone who thinks the government can cure the health care system by managing it is a fool. New Zealand was on government operated healthcare. Didn't like, so voted off, and their economy started improving. The UN wants to tax Americans billions of dollars and Obama and Biden have sponsored a bill to pay. The only reason it has passed is a committee delay, to be brought up next session.

The liberals want Americans to provide health care to the world. One person on the blog stated it right. England's health care system is dispised by citizens. 7 million Brits can't get a dentist because the government has paid out the maximum for the year. And, this is a liberal government.

Most of the people who want free services are usually worthless individuals. The walk around with tattoos, smoking, buying liquor, and fail to use what money they do have to support their family. Greywolf is correct, only an idiot would not recognize the truth.

You are off base and know not of what you speak. It is called fear mongering.

No, he is not off base completely, just partially. I don't want "free healthcare" because you get what you pay for. He is correct. Many countries are beginning to turn away from their Socialist ways because they have become too expensive and their citizens won't work anymore to pay for them. Take a look at France or Sweden. I can't find anything on a bill from the UN for universal health care. If he wants to discuss it, then he should include the link.

Universal Healthcare for the entire world is an absolutely frightening concept to anyone who believes in human freedom.

It is becoming more and more obvious that enslavement of the world's population is what the "Globalists" have in store for us. Once the system is in place, we will have no freedom. If you disagree with their rules - no more health care! No more food! To the camps with you!

As a free American citizen, I do not want my destiny tied to millions of people in the Third World. Let them work towards and achieve their own healthcare system. Localism is the key - not handing over our bodies to some central government authority.

And another thing: Healthcare is NOT a right! The US Constitution gives us the right to be FREE to PERSUE health care but it does not give us the right TO healthcare.

What's the difference? Simple - if someone says "I have the RIGHT to free healthcare" that means SOMEONE ELSE is forced to provide that free care. WE DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO FORCE ANOTHER CITIZEN TO PROVIDE US WITH A FREE SERVICE!!!! That is called SLAVERY!

Remember: A government which is powerful enough to give you everything you want - is powerful enough to take away everything you have.

No to Universal Healthcare!!!! It's a trap!
